Harry Potter must die
September 18th 2006 12:39
I have never done this before but everyone has a first time. I am going throw my hat into the ring and start speculating how and when Harry Potter will die. It’s plain Rowling has decided to kill Harry. I had my suspicions when I read The Half-Blood Prince.
It’s this song by Horace Slughorn that made the alarm bells ring:
And Odo the hero, they bore him back home
To the place that he’d known as a lad,
They laid him to rest with his hat inside out
And his wand snapped in two, which was sad.’
Why include this song if not to give us a hint that Harry might be Odo? Well, I didn’t think much about it after ward until I read the recent updates JKR made to website. This is what she had to say:
Now that I'm back from New York, the only real news is that I'm continuing to work hard on the book. I've done quite a lot, and I'm really enjoying it, though every now and then I look up and realise that it's THE LAST ONE. You might think I'd have got used to that idea during the sixteen years I've been planning seven books, but it still keeps hitting me... no more Harry after this... and then I bury myself in book seven again and tell myself I've still got plenty to write.
The heightened security restrictions on the airlines in August made the journey back from New York interesting, as I refused to be parted from the manuscript of book seven (a large part of it is handwritten, and there was no copy of anything I had done while in the US). They let me take it on, thankfully, bound up in elastic bands. I don't know what I would have done if they hadn't; sailed home, probably.
I am currently trying to decide between two possible titles. I was quite happy with one of them until the other one struck me while I was taking a shower in New York. They would both be appropriate, so I think I'll have to wait until I'm further into the book to decide which one works best.
No more Harry...Can it be any plainer? There Harry, you’re a goner, mate.
Most people assume that it is Voldemort who is going to kill Harry. And if Harry has to die, then Voldemort has to live, according to the prediction. Even JKR won’t be that bad to let evil triumph right? Wrong. Because Voldemort is not the only one who is after Harry. There is Snape, there is Draco, there is Bella and not to mention a bunch of death eaters waiting for Harry. I think Harry will vanquish Voldie but die by some other means.

Yeah she did something like that. Tthat the idea of sombody else writing a spinoff gives an added incentive to kill Harry

Harry has had a rather painful life. More torture would be indecent.

The sooner he jumps off this mortal coil the better, as far as I'm concerned.

There won't be an 8th book. Your idea is good and many people have speculated that Ron might cop it out too. But right now, the odds are stacked against Harry.
Finally, it was Hermione's bday yesterday. Happy B'day Hermione.

I figured she might end it for him anyway - I always saw it as that harry and Voldemort would have their final battle for both of them, in other words, Harry vanquishes Voldemort, but at the same time sustains a fatal or very serious blow leading to the end of his life. But then maybe he will be happy anyway being at last back with his parents.

Possibly with a loss of magical powers along the way.

This is of course after harry has sex with that girl he's always with (I bet it will happen) to add some controversy to the mix. "Well its just a fact of life" JKR will say as the last harry potter novel shoots into the all time best sellers list of all time

I am kind of shocked with the comments here. LOL...
Harry Potter's book started as a children's book, doesn't fit the logic to be too adult in the last episode. This would have given a lot of bad comments from the parents side.
I would have the feeling that both Harry and Voldemort would have to die, because they are like the light and darkness. If there isn't darkness, there won't have light either.
Ron and Hermione would probably ended up together but how it is, I really have to read the stories again. LOL
Yes, the books are very much different from the movies. I didn't even watch "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" movie. That has shown how dissapointed since the 3rd one.
Nevertheless, I guess JKR would know how to finish the book nicely. Since it is the last one it should be a lot of thoughts to it.

Jessica, I agree wih your comments. These books are written for the children even though some adults cannot stop reading them and I don't think Rowling would do anything to scandalise her primary audience.
Thinking about the whole issue though, A.S.Byatt once said the adults who read harry Potter are still in their latency period and are childish adults. You can read my rejoinder in this review.

But then again, how fiction will it be in this magical world? I still have no idea about it.

However the "hot from the oven" books are soooo expensive and I do wonder this time I can afford to go there and queue and get the hot final series of this book and get it done reading once and for all!
hahahaha...
